Rocking Your writing Opening Pages Summer camp
A 2-week live summer camp for creative writers who want to stop circling the idea, write stronger opening pages, and build the momentum to keep going.
The 2-Week 'Opening Pages' Summer Camp For Creative Writers
You know that feeling when you have the idea, the notebook, the good pen, the vague sense that this could be something wonderful…
…and then the opening page looks back at you like it is judging you and daring you to continue without a rewrite.
This camp is for that moment.
Over 2 weeks, we’ll work together on the beginning of your story: the way in, the first page, the first scene, the voice, the momentum, and the small practical process that helps you keep writing after the first burst of enthusiasm has wandered off and you find yourself reorganising the spice rack.
Isn't This What's Really Happening?
You've got stories rattling around in your head. Characters who feel more real than some of your neighbours. Scenes that play out perfectly when you're in the shower or walking the dog.
But when you sit down to write? The blank page stares back.
You've probably bought courses before. Downloaded free guides. Joined writing groups that fizzled out. Maybe you've even completed a few writing challenges, felt brilliant for about a week, then watched your daily habit evaporate like morning mist.
The problem isn't your talent. It's not your ideas. It's not even your discipline.
The problem is that most writing courses treat you like you're starting from scratch, when what you really need is to reconnect with why you started writing in the first place, explore in 'real time' - and then build something sustainable from there.
Why This Summer-camp Is Different (And Why That Matters)
To begin with, it's a 2-weeks LIVE writing experience. Not a 'do it yourself' video course.
AND...
This is not about finishing an entire book in two weeks. No one needs that kind of nonsense in July. This is about something much more practical and useful - creating a writing practice that works for YOU. From Opening to Ending.
By the end of the camp, you’ll have:
- a clearer way into your story
- drafted or revised opening pages
- a better understanding of how YOU naturally begin
- a simple process for planning, pantsing, or blending the two
- practical tools for getting unstuck
- more confidence in your voice and choices
- a next step that keeps the work alive
You will not just learn about writing beginnings.
You will write.
You will test things.
You will notice what changes.
You will find YOUR way.
You will leave with something on the page that wasn't there before.
What You'll Actually Do (No Fluff, No Filler)
Across 6 LIVE workshops, you will build the foundations of your own Writing Practice based on your life, your values, voice, timescales, and space. Basically we find what works for YOU to keep starting and a repeatable system designed by YOU so you'll keep going when this is over.
The camp moves through a simple arc:
- First, we find the way in.
- Then we shape the opening.
- Then we build the process that helps you keep going.
Here's what we'll work on together:
These are working sessions. You'll write during them.
Workshop 1: Find Your Way In
-
We’ll start with the project, idea, or fragment you want to work on.
-
You’ll explore what kind of beginning your story might need, what’s been stopping you, and how to create enough safety and momentum to begin.
-
You’ll leave with: a chosen project and a first writing exercise on the page.
Workshop 2: The Opening That Pulls The Reader Forward
- We’ll look at what opening pages actually need to do - invites the reader in and gives them a reason to stay.
- We'll explore examples from fiction and have room for questions, group work and bonuses.
- You’ll leave with: a stronger opening paragraph, page, or scene direction.
Workshop 3: Plan it, Wing it, Blend it
-
Are you a plotter, pantser, or plantser?More importantly: what does your project need from you right now?
-
We’ll explore planning without overplanning, discovery writing without chaos, and how to build a light structure that keeps you moving.
- Questions, group work and bonuses.
- You’ll leave with: your own simple “next steps” map.
Workshop 4: Show the Start, Don't Explain It
-
This is where we make the opening more alive.
We’ll use sensory detail, setting, body language, action, and implication to help the reader feel the story rather than simply receive information about it. -
We’ll explore the power of Show, Don't Tell to keep your readers engaged and wanting more. We invite them onto the stage with your characters.
- Questions, group work and bonuses.
- You’ll leave with: a revised section of your opening that creates a more visceral experience on the page.
Workshop 5: Momentum, resistance, and the writing practice that works
-
Starting is one thing. Continuing is where many writers stumble.
-
We’ll look at resistance, confidence, breaks, rewards, and how to create a writing practice that fits your real life.
-
We’ll explore the power of your environment, consistency and your 'Sacred Hours'.
- Questions, group work and bonuses.
- You’ll leave with: a personal writing process you actually use.
Workshop 6: Polish, share, celebrate and next step
-
We'll bring the work from the Summer Camp together.
-
You’ll review what has changed, choose your next step, and leave with a clearer sense of where your story wants to go next.
-
We'll explore the Endless Ideas process.
- Questions, group work and bonuses.
- You’ll leave with: YOUR opening pages, a next action, and a way to continue.
The Community
You'll join a private group of writers who are exactly where you are. Writers who've been stuck and are choosing to get unstuck.
We share work. We celebrate tiny wins. We commiserate over the days when words won't come. And yes, we hold each other accountable - gently, the way you'd want a good friend to check in on you.
Hot Seats and Q&A Sessions
2 Hot Seat Sessions - submit a question and, if chosen, we'll explore it live on the call.
This is a place to get coaching and answers. Ask questions that matter. Get feedback on actual problems you're having.
Timing: 8 pm UK time (to accommodate world time differences as best as I can)
All Replays available - because life happens, and missing one session shouldn't derail everything. There's a Replay and Bonus Course section you'll have access to during and after the Summer Camp
